Useful in parts

Useful in parts. Fine as a reference, less so as a cover-to-cover read.

A colleague recommended this and I can see why. It does something that few technical books manage: it respects the reader's time. The chapters on computer graphics are the strongest — the examples are stripped down but complete, and I could follow along without constant guessing. Some of the material is available elsewhere, but rarely presented this clearly. A few of the examples could be more realistic, but the underlying points come across clearly. Three stars feels about right. It will stay on my shelf, but it will not be the first one I reach for.

A genuine pleasure to read

A superb guide. The examples are small but complete.

I picked this up after getting stuck on a project and it turned out to be exactly the right book at the right time. The explanations are careful without being condescending, which is a difficult balance to strike. There is a section near the end that ties several earlier ideas together in a way I had not seen before. This is the book I wish had existed when I started working with computer graphics.

Clear, thorough, and genuinely useful

The clearest explanation of computer graphics I have come across.

I was looking for something that would bridge the gap between tutorials and proper reference material, and this does that well. There is a section near the end that ties several earlier ideas together in a way I had not seen before. There is a section near the end that ties several earlier ideas together in a way I had not seen before. One of those books that pays for itself within the first few chapters. Highly recommended.
